Joy Brown
Joy Brown grew up in Japan from 1951 to 1968, the daughter of a medical missionary. She received a B. A. of Fine Arts from Eckerd College in Florida in 1972, then returned to Japan in 1975 to apprentice with Ichiro Toshiro, a thirteenth generation potter in Tamba Japan. From 1976 to 1978 she apprenticed with Morioka Shigeyoshi in the village of Amano. Her work reflects the influence of the Japanese aesthetic resulting from her years in Japan and apprenticeship in traditional Japanese ceramics.
